My Sipsby experience

A while back, I came across an ad on Facebook for a subscription box for tea called Sipsby. My first reaction was oh that’s cool, my grandmother would love that, because she loves tea. We even went to a tea room for a tea party for her 80th birthday. I’m relatively new to tea, and still discovering what I like, so I thought, this might be kind of fun to try. I’ve never tried a subscription box before, and so I decided to give it a whirl. I had a chance to try my first box free so I thought why not? First I’ll give you all the details, then I’ll show you what I got in my box and tell you how I liked each tea. (Plus check out my unboxing video at the bottom of the post!)

First, how does it work? First you’ll create a profile, and take your profile quiz, here is where you get to tell Sipsby what you do and don’t like, do you like fruity teas, how about nutty teas? do you like black tea? do you prefer to receive only decaf teas or all caffeinated teas, or a mixture of both? how do you feel about loose leaf tea? etc. You can be as picky or liberal with your answers as you want. Based on that quiz, they will then curate a box each month of teas they think you will like. You will get 4 different teas each month to try.

When you receive your box, there will not only be your teas in the box, but also an insert that tells you a bit about each tea and how to steep it. Sometimes they’ll even include tea bags for the loose leaf tea you may or may not get in your box. Then you can rate each tea to accrue points toward either $5 off a box or to earn a free box (depending on how many points you have). Now you may be wondering this all sounds great but how much does this subscription cost? Would you believe that it is only $15 a month shipped?! That was amazing to me because a lot of subscription boxes I’ve been interested in trying were way more (hence the reason I haven’t really tried any other subscription boxes yet!) Use this link, and you’ll get $5 off your first box!

Now here’s what they sent me (Disclaimer: all the product descriptions I got straight from the Sipsby website…those are not my descriptions 😉 ):

Sipsby Mountain Tea

Mountain Tea with Lemon Balm and Caraway by Traditional Medicinals

Description:

Celebrated by the Greeks for millennia as an herb to support everyday wellness, mountain tea has gained epic nicknames such as “Ironwort,” “The Tea of the Gods,” and “The Tea of the Titans.” It has earned a reputation for its countless protective, supportive and soothing abilities.* Though mountain tea is a staple in many Greek households, Traditional Medicinals is one of the first tea companies in North America to feature this herb.

My thoughts

I thought this tea was pretty tasty and on the card they sent me, it also said something about being good for your digestive system, which I thought was pretty awesome! I gave this one 5 stars.
sipsby teapigs trim

Trim by teapigs

Description:

The active ingredient in this yummy peachy blend is guarana seed from the Amazon basin – it’s known to give your metabolism an all-natural boost! Perfect before an afternoon workout.

My thoughts:

I liked this tea, I was a bit disappointed because I thought I’d taste more of the peach flavor, and I didn’t get that as much, but it was still yummy! I can definitely tell why it would be good as a preworkout tea because the caffeine will definitely jumpstart you. (I’m really bad at working out regularly, so for me it was just a wake-me-up tea).

sipsby vanilla matcha

Vanilla Matcha by DAVIDsTEA

Description:

This all-natural blend of vanilla, stone-ground matcha and sweet coconut nectar is the easiest way to get your matcha fix. Start your day with a Vanilla Matcha latte, a green smoothie or some next-level oatmeal! No need to decide between flavor, energy and antioxidants – this tea’s got ’em all.

My thoughts

img_5529I’ve never had matcha tea before, and let me tell you, I think it’s safe to say this became my favorite tea they sent me! It was recommended to try a latte, which I’d never done, and I don’t have one of those fancy French presses they recommended on Pinterest, but with a recipe and some tweaking I used my Pampered Chef Whipped Cream Maker and regular milk since I didn’t have almond milk, and it was amazing! I actually think I’ll be buying more matcha since I liked it so much!

sipsby pumpkin spice

Organic Pumpkin Spice by Davidson’s Organic Teas

Description:

A creamy medley of robust spices and decadent pumpkin essence with a base of pure, organic black tea, sourced from family tea gardens in India. Serve by itself, or latte-style with milk and sweetener.

My thoughts

img_5570I was pleasantly surprised by this one, I don’t always like pumpkin spice flavored things. This was an amazing tea and perfect for my November box. Since I was so in love with the Vanilla Matcha latte, I decided why not try a Pumpkin Spice latte? So I made this one the same way and topped it with a little cinnamon. It was perfect! Love, love, loved it! Plus I felt fancy with the frothy milk and cinnamon dust, it’s the small things that make me feel amazing in the morning, and fancy drinks are probably one of them.

In Summary

I would highly recommend this subscription box for you or maybe as a gift for someone you know that loves tea, or even if you’re new to tea like I am. I have quickly fallen in love as you can tell, and they didn’t disappoint in any of the teas they sent me. If you are interested in trying Sipsby, use this link and you’ll get $5 off your first box!
