Dear Joey by Alicia Eggers–Book Review

Dear+Joey.jpg

“Dear Joey” is a book written to encourage mothers to fully embrace motherhood, and recognize it as beautiful. It was written in response to a blog post Alicia Eggers wrote when she was inspired Joey Feek’s last months with her daughter. I can’t think of any better way to summarize it than what the back copy says, “Her [Joey’s] life and death can encourage every mother to fully embrace every single breath and to live fully in each moment. Alicia shows the reader that living on purpose, through the anchor of Christ, is the most abundant life to live.”

Do you find yourself dreading certain things about motherhood? Or maybe you just feel frustrated all the time? I think every mother has been to a point where she has lost it on her family or she just gets really irritated when the kids want 50 million things at bedtime. I love how Alicia encourages mothers to embrace these little things, because as cliché as it may sound it won’t last forever, they’re going to grow up way too fast, and one day we’re going to wish we had enjoyed our children’s childhoods a little more. I’m guilty, I know I’m not alone, I get so irritated at small things, but after reading this book, I am working on trying to embrace my motherhood every moment, and live to the fullest, because there are women out there who would give anything to have their child beg for more glasses of water, to lay with them because they are scared, to talk their ears off, but for one reason or another they don’t have those opportunities. That one thought alone made me stop and think, “Wow! I really need to work on that!”  I also love how real she is, there are real life examples throughout the book as well as a few more of her blog posts. Overall, it was a very encouraging and thought provoking book. As a mother, I believe every mother should read this one! Go grab your copy here!
