My Review

I am loving these studies by Shadia Hrichi. I did the Hagar study a few months ago, and absolutely loved it, and Legion is just as good! I love how she takes a obscure character in the Bible and teaches you so much from their story. I learned so much from this study, but one thing in this study that has really stuck out to me was the idea of setting up a Sabbath date with God. I mean I know what the Sabbath is, and I know we need a day of rest, but she really made me think about the Sabbath and what that might look like for me. I am a big fan of Bible Studies that are workbooks, and these are formatted like that. I love them because I don’t have to have 2 or 3 different books and a notebook to keep track of, I just have the one book. They also make me think and look up the verses myself to study with some questions to help guide me as I do so. I highly recommend this study as well as the Hagar study if you haven’t done that one yet!

More from Shadia

If there is one universal truth, it is that every human heart longs for paradise. A perfect world without death, pain, or sorrow. A world at peace, where each of us is secure, treasured, and loved. But the reality is that the world as we know it will never deliver; it cannot. Scripture tells us that “the whole world lies in the power of the evil one” (1 John 5:19).

As a result, you and I live in a broken world. A world that has been drifting off course ever since that slippery serpent enticed our first parents to reject God’s authority in that garden paradise so long ago. In that moment, they unwittingly handed over dominion of the earth to Satan on a silver platter. But this then begs the question. Why was God willing to risk rebellion in the Garden? And why would God allow His perfect creation to fall victim to the enemy’s schemes? And if God is good, why does He allow evil to exist?

Through this six-week study, you and I will explore the answers to these questions and more as we step into the fascinating story of the man known only by the name of the demons that tormented him. To be honest, I don’t know why I am attracted to the hard stories in the Bible. The messy stories. I suspect it stems, in part, from my own broken past. I can relate much easier to the broken people. The ones who experienced times when they felt unseen, or unloved, or unwanted. At the same time, their stories captivate my heart because when God reveals what He is doing behind the seen, His power and glory are displayed in ways that make my spirit soar!

So I invite you to come with me as we climb into the boat with Jesus and head into enemy territory. We will witness Jesus’s power and passion as He battles violent storms and armies of demons in order to rescue . . . one . . . lost . . . soul. Tormented, chained, and living in a graveyard, the man had no one to help him. No one to intercede for him. No one but Jesus. As a result:

  • A demoniac becomes a disciple.
  • A house of demons becomes a dwelling for the Living God.
  • The chained becomes a champion of good news.

You and I live in a world crying out for rescue. And just as Jesus was willing to cross the sea and rescue one man from the enemy’s chains, He crossed the heavens to rescue you and me from a fate even worse: eternal chains. But praise God that through His sacrifice for sin, Jesus conquered all the forces of evil and opened up the gates of paradise to all who embrace His mercy. So come with me. Let’s rediscover the God Who Rescues Me!

“For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son.” —Colossians 1:13 NASB

Want More From Your Prayer Life?

If you’re dissatisfied in your prayer life, wanting to be more consistent in prayer, or looking to deepen your intimacy with God, then this Bible study was written for you. It examines the prayers of eight biblical characters and teaches you how to pray like the prayer warriors who went before you. You’ll study:

  • Jesus: A Model Prayer
  • Paul: A Prayer of Intercession
  • Job: A Prayer of Despair
  • Hannah: A Prayer of Longing
  • David: A Prayer of Lament
  • Asa: A Prayer of Seeking God
  • Jehoshaphat: A Prayer of Dependence
  • Nehemiah: A Prayer of Boldness

Follow in the footsteps of these spiritual giants and discover anew what our loving God does with a little faith and a whole lot of prayer. You’ll love studying these scriptural prayers, like the prayer of Asa:

Then Asa called to the Lord his God and said, “Lord, there is no one besides You to help in the battle between the powerful and those who have no strength; so help us, O Lord our God, for we trust in You, and in Your name have come against this multitude. O Lord, You are our God; let not man prevail against You.” (2 Chron. 14:11)

My Review

This Bible study taught me so much about prayer! I loved every minute of this study! One aspect I love about this study was that it is a workbook. I love that the study and the workbook are all in one. It makes it so much easier than have 2-3 books/notebooks to keep track of. If you want to boost your prayer life and become a better prayer warrior, I definitely recommend this study. You will study the prayers of 8 prominent people in the Bible and learn how we can pray just as they did!

My Review

This has been one of the most interesting studies I have ever done! I have loved every minute of it. I love that it is a workbook that guides you as you study it out for yourself, instead of just simply reading a study. I love the interaction, applying it to my own life, looking up the verses myself and the questions that make me think deeper than if I were to just read Hagar’s story. One of my favorite parts of the study was when the author compares Hagar to the Woman at the Well. I never would have thought to study the life of Hagar, I mean I’ve read her story many times and know about her, but to really study her and think about her from the aspects that this study has shown me, I have learned so much from her life. I have seen how God cares about the downtrodden, the outcasts, those who feel they are not enough. I highly recommend this Bible Study. It is full of Biblical insight and will teach you so much through the story of Hagar, a woman who had no say over her circumstances.

More from Shadia

Am I known? Am I loved? Am I home?

Every human heart is searching for the answers to these questions. Yet when pain and heartache enter our lives, we feel betrayed and cry out one question: God, do You see me?

The answer is yes. He is Behind the Seen.

Because we live in a fallen world, each of us will inevitably face hard times, even painful ones. Who among us has never seen or felt the fallout of broken homes, broken lives, or broken dreams? Hagar is a great example of someone who discovered God during a difficult time.

Maybe you have never heard of her. Or perhaps you came across her name in a study of the book of Genesis. But how much do you really know about this young slave girl? We often relegate her to the backstage as a minor character in God’s redemptive story. But was she?

As I explored Hagar’s story for another book I wanted to write, God continually amazed me as we journeyed together from the affluence of Egypt, into a life of slavery, to a desert of despair. It seemed the more I studied her life, the more I discovered about God. What began as a chapter evolved into a study all its own.

Two years and several thousand hours of study and prayer later, HAGAR: Rediscovering the God Who Sees Me came to be. Consider this book as your backstage pass to the life of Hagar.

I have never actually gone backstage during a live event, but I know that much more goes on behind the scenes than meets the eye. I invite you to come backstage with me and explore how God was involved in every detail of Hagar’s life. Her story has all the ingredients of a Hollywood tragedy: betrayal, loss, abuse, crisis pregnancy, abandonment . . . any of that sound painfully familiar?

Thankfully, Hagar’s story does not end in despair. God was working Behind the Seen—just as He has in your life and mine—all along. As a matter of fact, Hagar emerges victorious!

Hagar: an unsung hero if there ever was one.

Beloved, is the enemy using anything in your past to try to derail you from God’s plan, or hold you back from experiencing God’s joy to the fullest? Be assured, that is not how your story will end. Just as God did for Hagar, when He enters your story, victory is already assured.

So strap on your sandals and a grab a bottle of water. We’re heading into the desert. A place where we will rediscover the God Who Sees Me.

“The people who walked in darkness
have seen a great light;
those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness,
on them has light shone.”
—Isaiah 9:2

Who Do You Say that I AM? by Becky Harling–Book Review

This Bible Study focuses on the I AM statements of Jesus Christ. It’s an 8-week study focusing on deepening your faith in Jesus. I love the way the publisher summarizes it on the back cover of how the study will help readers to:

  • Realize the truth of who Jesus really is
  • Grow in their ability to trust God and rely on Him fully
  • Find the calm and peace promised in Scripture despite life circumstances

I learned so much through this study! I know there were some things God was obviously speaking to me about because several times what I’d been learning through this study was reiterated somewhere else, in my Mom’s Connect Group, in church, etc. I loved the questions to help you dig deeper into the Scriptures and each I AM statement. I tend to learn best through studies like this that have workbooks to guide me. I highly recommend this study to any woman who wants to dig deeper into who Jesus really is to them.

He is Enough by Asheritah Ciuciu–Book Review

This Bible Study will walk you through Colossians and show you how Christ is Enough, in fact he is more than enough. The world will tell you that you need more money, more things, more, more, more to be happy, to be complete, to be satisfied.

“If you’re tired of seeking satisfaction that’s “just around the corner,” come and encounter the God who is here and who is ENOUGH. “

                                                                                              – from the back cover

I enjoyed this study and I definitely learned a lot from it. I enjoyed the way it helped me dive deeper and research things on my own. For example, there were times the study would have you look up what the original Greek words meant or look something up in a Bible dictionary. (Don’t worry, you can do this online if you don’t have one on hand) I will admit at some points I felt like it was a little too deep for me, or i just couldn’t figure out what the answer to the question asked based on the passage I was looking at. Overall, I enjoyed the study and would probably still recommend it, but I did find it a bit deep in spots.

Lies Women Believe by Nancy Leigh DeMoss Wolgemuth–Book Review

lies2

“Many women live under a cloud of personal guilt and condemnation,” says Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth. “Many are in bondage to their past. Others are gripped by fear of rejection and a longing for approval. Still others are emotional prisoners.”

Everyone encounters lies throughout their lives. The Devil is the Father of lies, and will do anything he can to get you to believe lies. Starting in the Garden of Eden, Satan attacked the first woman, Eve, with a lie. In this updated version of Lies Women Believe, Nancy Leigh Wolgemuth covers several lies that women today are faced with and corresponding truths that will help them overcome these lies. She covers topics suchas, lies about God,  themselves, priorities, children, emotions, circumstances, and more. The only thing that can conquer these lies is the Truth, the Truth of God’s Word.

The Lies Women Believe Study Guide is a corresponding study guide that helps you dig deeper into the book, and search the Scripture to help you recognize and overcome the lies the Devil will throw at you. (And he will come at you with lies, no Christian is exempt!) Each chapter in the guide is divided into three sections: In a Nutshell (overview), Exploring the Truth, and Walking Together in the Truth (for group study).

I have absolutely loved this book and study guide! I highly recommend it to every Christian woman! One of the things I found most interesting, was in the beginning of each chapter, she starts with a short snippet of something that looks like Eve’s journal. What she may have thought at different stages of her life, or things she may have gone through that correlates to the Lies that will be covered in that chapter. I learned so much through each chapter, and there were some lies I know I myself have believed at one time or another.

The Study Guide was so helpful. While you can use it for group studies, I did it as an individual study and it worked perfectly! I love how in this guide it doesn’t just ask you questions about what’s in the book, it makes you dig deeper in God’s Word giving you Scripture after Scripture to look up and further study for yourself. I have done other studies where they’ll ask you according to page #….what did you learn about this? It was so refreshing to do a study that takes you straight to the ultimate source of Truth, God’s Word.

Overall, I can’t say enough how much I loved this entire book/study! I feel more equipped as a Woman of God to recognize the Devils lies, and overcome them with the Truth of God’s Word. I truly have learned a lot from everything I’ve ever read that Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth has written. I pray that you will learn just as much from this study as I did!
