This chapter focuses on being keepers at home. I recently have had the opportunity to become a stay-at-home mom, and let’s be honest, it’s a hard job! Even if you aren’t able to stay home with your children, we as moms have a great responsibility to raise our children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. We need to teach them the things of God, and have them in church; teach them what’s right and what’s wrong. There are people who hate staying home, but I absolutely love being the one that stays home with my children everyday. I count it a privilege to raise my children and take care of my home full time. Yes, there are days I feel like I’ve lost my mind, and I do get completely overwhelmed. I still wouldn’t trade it for a minute. It’s hard work keeping the house clean, making sure the kids don’t hurt each other, getting dinner ready, etc. I love the way Mrs. Pearl defines being a “keeper at home” she says,
“Keeping the home is more than staying at home; it is having a heart that is fixed on the home.”–Debi Pearl, Created to be His Help Meet, Chapter 2
Keep up the good work. Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” So instill in your children the Biblical principles they need now, so that when they are older they will fall back on them. Another big thing we need to do when raising our children, probably one of the most important things we need to do for our children is pray for them. Especially in this day and age, we need to pray more than ever for our children to be saved, to meet a Godly Christian spouse (it’s never too early to start praying for our children’s spouses), and that they would grow up to serve the Lord with their whole heart.
So don’t despair, we’ve all been there as moms. You may feel like nothing you’re trying to teach your children is sinking in, but one day when you least expect it, they will repeat something you’ve drilled into them, and you’ll realize that all your hard work is paying off. I pray that God would give us all patience as we keep our home, whether you stay at home full time, or are a working mother.
