Another trait of a virtuous wife is “to be discreet,” which Mrs. Pearl defines as “prudent; wise in avoiding error and in selecting the best means to accomplish a purpose; circumspect; courteous, polite, honest dealings.” We need to be polite and honest at all times. This not only helps our character, but boosts your husband’s reputation. Can you imagine with me for a second? Envision a woman who is rude, obnoxious and dishonest. You just saw her notice that the cashier at the checkout gave her an extra $5 by accident. You see her count the money, but puts it in her pocket anyway. Now you’ve witnessed this woman’s rudeness to the cashier and how obnoxious she was as you made your way through the store listening to her the whole way through your grocery trip. In your mind you would think, “oh her poor husband!” or something like that. Do you want to be like that or have people think that about you or your husband? Now envision a sweet lady who on the same shopping trip you witnessed bump into a cart by accident, but instead of snidely remarking of how the person should have their cart somewhere out of her way, says sweetly that she’s very sorry and quietly goes on her way. Then at the same checkout you see her count her change and quickly come back to the cashier and apologize and give back the $5 extra. This woman you would probably think something like, “wow, what an honest woman, her husband is a very lucky man!” Now which woman do you want to be? I don’t know about you, but I’d much rather be the second lady! I hope that we can all strive to be this kind of woman, and in doing so we bring honor to our husbands!
