While chapter 2 focused on having a merry heart and being joyful; chapter 3 continues this thought. In order to have true joy we need to first have thankfulness. According to Debi Pearl “thankfulness is how you think, and joy is the abundance it produces.” In order to be the best help meet I can be, I need to be thankful for what I have and be content with where I am right now.
I personally struggle with being thankful and content. Sometimes I start to complain and don’t even realize I’m doing it. I have found that if I’m complaining about what I don’t have or how we need to get this or that, it only makes my husband feel bad because he can’t get it for me for one reason or another. Sometimes just saying something as simple as I wish we could have that or constantly saying we really need to get something in a seemingly innocent way can make our husbands feel guilty even though that’s not what we meant to do.
