The First Christmas Ever by Dennis Jones – Book Review

firstChristmasThe First Christmas Ever by Dennis Jones retells the story of that wonderful night many years ago in Bethlehem. It tells how the angel came to Mary and Joseph and told them both that Mary was going to have a baby. It follows them as they attempt to find a place to stay in Bethlehem, and explains the circumstances surrounding Jesus’ birth.

I loved how the author retells the story of Jesus’ birth and includes beautiful detailed illustrations that will keep a child’s attention throughout the book. He does a wonderful job at explaining details that might not be understood by a child. For example, at the beginning he explains why Mary and Joseph were traveling to Bethlehem by saying that the king wanted to count the people. The story was very Biblical and lined up with what the Bible says. A lot of children’s books about the birth of Jesus portray the wisemen as coming to the stable where Jesus was born, when the Bible clearly states that they came to the house where they were living and he was a “young child,” but Jones was spot on. I would highly recommend this book to parents.
